F64 Magento Migration

F64, one of Romania’s leading photography equipment retailers, needed to migrate from their aging custom platform to a modern ecommerce solution that could scale with their growing business.

The Challenge

The migration presented several complex challenges including over 200,000 customer records with complete order history that needed to be preserved, 15,000+ product SKUs with complex attributes and relationships, custom pricing rules and promotions that needed to be replicated, integration requirements with existing warehouse management system, and a minimal downtime requirement for their 24/7 operation.

Our Solution

We developed a comprehensive migration strategy that minimized risk while ensuring data integrity throughout the process.

Comprehensive Data Migration

Developed custom migration scripts to transfer all customer data, order history, product information, and content while maintaining complete data integrity. We created validation tools to verify data accuracy post-migration.

AWS Infrastructure

Designed and deployed a scalable AWS infrastructure using EC2 for application servers, RDS for managed database hosting, and S3 for media storage. This provided high availability and room for future growth.

Parallel Testing Environment

Set up a complete parallel environment that mirrored production, allowing us to test the migration thoroughly multiple times before the final cutover. This included load testing to ensure the new platform could handle peak traffic.

Phased Rollout

Implemented a phased rollout strategy with detailed rollback procedures. We migrated in stages: first static content, then products, followed by customers and orders, minimizing risk at each step.

Results

The migration was completed successfully with minimal disruption: all 200K+ customer records migrated with full history preserved, only 2 hours of planned downtime during the final cutover, 15,000+ products transferred with all attributes intact, and 50% improvement in page load performance on the new infrastructure.
