ImageEngine Integration

ImageEngine needed a Shopify application that would allow merchants to easily integrate their image optimization CDN service, automatically optimizing all store images for better performance and Core Web Vitals scores.

The Challenge

The application needed to seamlessly integrate with Shopify’s theme system without requiring code changes, automatically rewrite image URLs to use ImageEngine CDN, provide a simple setup process for non-technical users, handle high traffic volumes reliably across thousands of stores, and support the wide variety of Shopify themes and customizations.

Symfony Backend

Built a robust backend using Symfony 6.2 and PHP 8.2, following modern development practices including dependency injection, service containers, and comprehensive testing. The architecture ensures maintainability and easy feature additions.

Automatic Integration

Developed a smart integration system that automatically detects and rewrites image URLs in Shopify themes without requiring manual code changes. The system works with both standard Shopify themes and custom implementations.

User-Friendly Dashboard

Created an intuitive dashboard where merchants can configure optimization settings, view real-time analytics showing bandwidth savings, and monitor their image optimization performance across their store.

Scalable Architecture

Designed the application to handle thousands of stores simultaneously using Redis caching for session and data storage, efficient database queries with proper indexing, and containerized deployment for easy scaling.

Comprehensive Testing

Implemented extensive automated testing across popular Shopify themes to ensure compatibility. The CI/CD pipeline runs theme compatibility tests before every deployment.

Results

The app has been well-received by the Shopify community with an average 70% reduction in image file sizes, 45% improvement in page load times, over 500 active installations, and consistently achieving “Good” LCP scores in Core Web Vitals assessments.
